I suspect the same thing has happened to Rubio that happened to so many others that went to DC with noble intentions. They got welcomed into the "most exclusive club in the world" by the powers there with open arms,showed around and told about future riches and glory if they played along with the players,and told about how they would be shut out and facing a heavily funded opponent next election if they didn't.

So,they ended up selling out so the other little Senators would play with them.

The talking heads on Fox and elsewhere (even Mark Levin) were pushing Rubio before most of us had even heard of him, so if we were indeed fooled at least we had company.

I've read through most of the posts on this thread, and I think Sneaky made one of the best points when he brought up Newt. I, too, remember how excited I was in '94 when the repubs took the House (which, if I recall correctly pretty much caught everyone by surprise.)

The dems, however, recovered quickly. They circled their wagons around Xlinton for one. That kept the blackmail apparatus in their grubby hands - which of course they eventually used AGAINST Newt (not that he didn't supply them ammo)

That, and the repub establishment propensity to nominate losers and "reach across the aisle" types like Bob Dole, and voila! The dems eventually came back, stonger than ever.

Weren't we all,at one time or another a part of the GOP faithful? I remember going to DC when Newt and the others were sworn in to take over control of congress for the first time in 40 years,and being as excited about it as a 8 year old on Christmas Morning.

And for good reason. Newt and a lot of the others did some good stuff before enough Dims changed their registrations to R to get in there and sabotage everything the conservatives tried. They just switched their party labels so they could get elected,they didn't change their minds about political values.

And Newt himself was everything he claimed he was,right up to the point the Dims took over the Republican Party and kicked him out of office and then blackmailed him.

Now it looks like a new conservative organization is gaining power called the Tea Party,and the same old thing is happening. Opportunists attach themselves to that trademark so they can get elected,and then once in office they go back to their roots.

And let's face reality,here. People like Bob Dolt and Poppy Bush were never anything but Dims to start with.
