Is America in a Pre-Revolutionary State this July 4th?

As we approach July 4, 2013, is America in a pre-revolutionary state? Are we headed for a Tahrir Square of our own with the attendant mammoth social turmoil, possibly even violence.

Could it happen here?

We are two-thirds of the way into the most incompetent presidency in our history. People everywhere are fed up. Even many of the so-called liberals who propelled Barack Obama into office have stopped defending him in the face of an unprecedented number of scandals coming at us one after the other like hideous monsters in some non-stop computer game.

And now looming is the monster of monsters, ObamaCare, the healthcare reform almost no one wanted and fewer understood.

It will be administered by the Internal Revenue Service, an organization that has been revealed to be a kind of post-modern American Gestapo, asking not just to examine our accounting books but the books we read. What could be more totalitarian than that?

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal warns the costs of ObamaCare are close to tripling what were promised, and the number of doctors in our country is rapidly diminishing. No more “My son, the doctor!” It doesn’t pay.

And young people most of all will not be able to afford escalating health insurance costs and will end up paying the fine to the IRS, simultaneously bankrupting the health system and enhancing the brutal power of the IRS — all this while unemployment numbers remain near historical highs.

No one knows how many have given up looking for work while crony capitalist friends of the administration enrich themselves on mythological clean-energy projects.

In fact, everywhere we look on this July Fourth sees a great civilization in decline. And much of that decline can be laid at the foot of the incumbent. Especially his own people, African Americans, have suffered. Their unemployment numbers are catastrophic, their real needs ignored while hustlers like Sharpton, Jackson, and, sadly, even the president fan the flames of non-existent racism.

We should be in a pre-revolutionary state. I got this email from "The White House" and it scares me. I did sign that petition for Texas to secede, oh, and the one for Missouri to secede and okay, maybe a few others but I don't remember signing anything about Ohio and unfair voting and yet I get this email from the White House just today.



The Choice We Made Together – and Another You Have Now

We understand that you might have been disappointed by the outcome of the 2012 election. But this election was decided fairly and democratically, and there's absolutely no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Let's look at the one argument you present in this petition.

You say that one county in Ohio has 98,213 eligible voters—we guess because that’s the number of people of voting age living in Wood County according to the 2010 Census. But according to the Ohio Secretary of State, Wood County actually had 108,014 registered voters at the time of the 2012 election. And of those registered voters, only 64,342 cast a ballot in November—not 106,258. Of the votes cast, President Obama won 50.98 percent, which is a great deal less than 108 percent. Meanwhile, Mitt Romney won 46.17 percent of the vote.

In fact there isn't a county in Ohio that came anywhere close to reporting more total votes than it had registered voters. Across the state, the county-by-county percentage of voter turnout based on registration ranged from 53 percent to 79 percent. The statewide average was 71 percent.

Those aren’t numbers we got out of thin air—again, they’re straight from the official election results released by Ohio’s Secretary of State.

In a nationwide election in which more than 125 million Americans cast ballots, there are always going to be irregularities and complaints. It’s unacceptable that citizens in many states had to wait in lines that lasted hours before they could vote, for instance, and the President made this clear in his Inaugural Address. And that’s why the lead lawyers from both the Obama and Romney campaigns have teamed up with other experts to launch the Presidential Commission on Election Administration, a bipartisan commission tasked to make voting work for voters. But this past fall, Americans chose to re-elect President Obama—together. So now, you have another choice. Will you work with your fellow citizens to help tackle the challenges that we can all agree our country faces?

You don't have to support President Obama or his vision for this country. But you have to acknowledge that all Americans, even those with whom you disagree, have the right to help to set our nation's course.

That's a truth that unites us all as citizens, and it sets up a basic agreement—one that makes us an example for other nations, which justifies our democratic experiment: the understanding that the elections we lose are still legitimate.

We’re a country full of those who hold passionate beliefs. We often fail to see eye to eye, and just as often, the debates those disagreements spark help to lead us forward—to solutions that make America stronger.

That's why President Obama has repeatedly asked that all Americans get involved with their democracy. And it’s why the White House has created new tools and channels to help us better explain our ideas, and more importantly, to help President Obama hear directly from you. With all due respect it doesn't mean we're not either.

Remember also that when we actually were in a pre-revolutionary state back in 1774-1775, only 1/3 of the population was engaged, if that. Another 1/3 were actively involved in being allied with the British, and the remaining third just wanted it all to go away and pretend it wasn't happening.

Things haven't changed much.

Once upon a time, there was a nice house.

The owners, who were also the builders of the house, were good people, but they were easily distracted. Now that the house was built, and in seemingly good repair, they went on with their lives. They wanted to occupy themselves with other things, so they engaged caretakers to come in and run and maintain the house. The owners were happy just to live in it.

The caretakers were not good people. They were thieves. They were robbers. They trashed each room of the house. They raided and plundered. They defecated in the yard.

The house, which was once the showplace of the street, was now in shambles and the laughing stock of the neighbors. Simply put, the house was in danger of being completely destroyed.

There are several ways this fairy tale can end.

It all depends on the owners.
