As time goes on, as "Latinos/Hispanics", whatever they're called this month, assimilate (and they will assimilate, however slowly)... eventually they will basically become like the Italians/Irish of yesteryear: they will self-identify as white and probably split evenly among the two parties.
Of course I'm still against amnesty and in the short term will have devastating effects on the country and GOP.

Let me go out on a limb here and assume that the GOPe really WANT to win elections. Given their actions, observers can be forgiven if we believe otherwise - that the GOPe is perfectly content with minority status.
So with that caveat, it should be clear to even the densest Karl Rove type that republicans are never going to succeed by being "democrat lite." The dems are the party of handouts, gimmies and gimmics. They pit one group against another, and one voting bloc against another, with promises of handouts. They get away with it because the Media is on their side.
Them's the facts - and republicans that think they can "beat" the dems at this game are at best fooling themselves.
IF they were to present a REAL alternative - a REAL conservative message that promotes self-reliance and freedom against the dem message of bigger and more intrusive government, they might find they would attract SOME Hispanics.
And SOME women. And SOME blacks. And . . . well you get the idea.
But first, there would have to be some evidence the GOPe believe in a conservative message, themselves.

Only the densest fringeball types believe that.
Well, with a sound argument and compelling logic such as that, you've sure convinced me.

Well done!

I don't know, WTF. I lived in a predominately hispanic area for years, and these were people whose ancestors had been American since 1836. They are not assimilated.

The bulk of the new wave of Central American illegal aliens are not even interested in assimilating.
That's new and troublesome.....and very different than the Italians and Irish.
I own a business in Orange County, California, I know (of course I know everything else, too).
