Senate leaders are close to a deal on executive branch nominees that would stop Democrats from triggering a controversial rules change known as the nuclear option.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he would update Democratic colleagues on the deal on seven of President Obama’s nominees at a caucus meeting later in the day. “We may have a way forward on this,” Reid announced on the Senate floor. “I feel fairly confident. ------ The framework of the agreement calls for Obama to pick two new nominees to the National Labor Relations Board to replace pending nominees Sharon Block and Richard Griffin Jr., according to Senate aides.
In return, Republicans will allow Mark Pearce, the third nominee to the labor board, and Richard Cordray, Obama’s choice to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, to advance to final up-or-down votes. ------ Republicans opposed Block and Griffin because Obama recess-appointed them in January 2012, a move later invalidated by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Obama recess-appointed Cordray to the consumer protection bureau on the same day. ----- Carney said the negotiating was done "between Democrats and Republicans" and that the White House simply "provided information and answered questions."
Reid said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was the key dealmaker. McCain spoke shortly before Reid and indicated Republicans will allow Cordray to reach a final vote.
“We are, after a required amount of debate, going to move forward with the Cordray nomination, which has been held up for some period of time,” he said. “I would like to thank everybody on both sides of the aisle who has engaged in this debate and discussion.”
Once again, the republicans remind me of why I changed my affiliation to independent. Such Wussies! How can they just give in when the court of appeals had already said Obama was wrong? I don't understand their thinking!!!

Yeah, I'm a little confused by this one. The 0 regime, led by Harry Reid, want to confirm more 0 minions. The R's are resisting. HR says he will change the rules so that they can confirm them with a mere majority vote. So, the R's say, OK, we'll confirm them. Did I get that right?

Obama caved.
LOL--you are throwing that out and hope it sticks-LOL
Obama withdrew two nominations, didn't he?
What happens if he picks two more that are in the same category as Sharon Block and Richard Griffin Jr.? Do the republicans just go ahead and let them be nominated if they're not suitable either?
They did win a partial battle but Obama's picks are not always what's best for the country and that's why the republicans are there to block it, not go along to get along....or being afraid of that evil man Harry Reid. John McCain should be thrown out of the republican party ....

Approving Presidential appointments is supposed to be pro-forma.
Obama mangled this situation badly.
It is astounding that he got punked on this....and it's further evidence of just how much political capital he's lost!
Remember, the Republicans are in the minority in the Senate.
