PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Hasbro says it will soon reveal a gender-neutral Easy-Bake Oven after meeting with a New Jersey girl who started a campaign calling on the toy maker to make one that appeals to all kids.
McKenna Pope, 13, of Garfield, N.J., got more than 40,000 signatures on her online petition at Change.org and the support of celebrity chefs including Bobby Flay, who backed her call for Hasbro to make a gender-neutral oven and to include boys in the ads.
She was prompted to start the petition after shopping for an Easy-Bake as a Christmas present for her 4-year-old brother, Gavyn Boscio, and finding them only in purple and pink.
Hasbro invited McKenna and her family to its Pawtucket, R.I., headquarters to meet with its Easy-Bake team, and on Monday, they drove to Rhode Island from New Jersey. During the meeting, Hasbro executives showed off a prototype of their newest Easy-Bake: one that’s black, silver and blue.
Hasbro has been working on the new color scheme and design for about 18 months, and decided to invite McKenna to see it and offer her thoughts, said John Frascotti, Hasbro’s chief marketing officer.
I agree, they should make them neutral. My son had that small scale kitchen (I can't recall the manufacturer but their products were ubiquitous about 25 or 30 years ago) in his play room simply because he wanted it. He grew up totally hetero, but he can't cook worth a damn!
In pre-school classrooms they have lots of toys for the children. Dolls, kitchen sets, trucks, robots, that kind of thing. Both sexes would play with the toys and mix well together. It's cooperative play. If Susie is playing with her baby doll and needs to make the doll breakfast, Tommy will pretend to fill the bottle for the baby. Why?
Because in his home he sees Mommy holding the crying baby sister while Daddy is making the bottle.
I think it's good that children play like this.
And then later Tommy will put the doll in the back of the dump truck and use it as a buggy because he's helping Susie. She's following behind with Tommy's robot in her hand.
Orthodoxy SUCKS.

McKenna Pope...Christmas present for her 4-year-old brother, Gavyn Boscio,
Ah. The new Obama America revealing itself. What type of stupid name is McKenna for a girl? Why couldn't these dopey parents spell Gavin properly? How many times in this kids life is he going to have to correct his name when conducting business? How comes these siblings have different last names? What sort of effeminate 4 year old boy wants a n E-Z Bake but is offended by the color?
I'll bet a dollar that this kid Gavyn has long hair like a girl. I have noticed that WAY too many parents are allowing this to the point that gender identification is impossible.
