It is news when the great-grandson of Prescott Bush runs for office in Texas... when the grandson of George H.W. Bush seeks office... when the nephew of President George W. Bush runs as land commissioner... when the son of former Governor Bush campaigns for office. It's historical. They are a political family. It is news.

We are here to discuss political news, are we not?

I don't see you posting articles that frequently, musiclady. And if the articles that I post offend you so very much, are you going to decline to post on the threads that I post?

I know that that Bush family has always interested you. I know that you posted frequently about them on Freerepublic. I know what your screenname was on that website. I know that you have always liked them as a family. And I understand that position.

I don't hate them as a family. I voted for George W. Bush in 2000.

I don't hate George P. Bush.

I do believe that he comes from a position of privilege. We do have a political elite in this nation. We do have families with political wealth and power who do rise to the top. If this were not true we would not be discussing George P. Bush. He wouldn't be a name familiar to us. We wouldn't have watched him grow up and know his life story.

When he campaigns for this office he benefits because he is known as the grandson of George and Barbara Bush, that cute little boy at the 1988 convention.

I cannot vote for or against him in Texas.

But that doesn't mean that I cannot shake my head and wonder at his good fortune at getting away with burglary that did not halt his military service or his law degree, let alone his political career.

I believe he has benefited from being born into the Bush family that has protected him well.

I thinks it's a mixed bag really. Your ability to take him completely at face value is great, but those who are weary regarding his families "moderate" history has merit too.

Yes, we are here to discuss political news, and I don't normally have any problem with any of your postings.

I just find it interesting that you posted an article about what I consider to be an irrelevant issue, and then proceed to condemn people on one side of the debate for defending their position.

I personally don't care that George P. Bush has been raised in a wealthy family. I don't find his running for office good or bad. And, as I have said ad nauseum here, I believe he should be judged on his merits and not on his name. And as I said yesterday, I believe his name is more of a liability than a benefit in today's climate of Bush hatred.

But I do find that this article has been a springboard for all sorts of irrelevant Bush bashing and that the mere mention of the name "Bush" causes immediate reaction in a handful of people who do hate the family, and many of the arguments against them are manufactured. I believe that the truth matters, no matter what side of the debate you're on.

Again. You're free to have your opinion (or base your opinion on me on archaic misinformation from a former, distasteful forum), but please hold the same standard for yourself as you do for others and don't condemn Cedric (or me) for some kind of obsession, when you've displayed more information on George P. Bush than anyone here.

Actually, I'm just willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt before condemning him just because he has the wrong name and an uncle who's hated by left and right alike.

Yes, it's a mixed bag, but I believe in making objective calls whenever possible, and in this case, dismissing George P. out of hand because you can't stand is uncle is not right.

My opinion is that you believe the Bush family is an honorable and good family.

I think the issue of George P. Bush running for the office of land commissioner is relevant because it is historical and timely otherwise it wouldn't have been written and posted in the news and linked on Drudge with follow up blog posts in the San Fransciso Gate even an hour ago...
