Let's be honest here. People are losing their religion because the church decided to forgo it's mandate to evangelize and disciple people for political power. They quit caring for the poor and started creating a subculture to insulate themselves from the very people who need Christ the most. We are simply bearing the fruit now. Pay attention to what Paul Weyrich says about Christianizing america via politics in the video below. Pay attention to Charles Stanley's diatribe about equality in marriage (he's divorced now). This is an older video but it has some good information.

I never thought that a simple search about some abuse issues in an abhorrent sect in evangelicalism would open my eyes and help me see what has bugged me for years. Something had changed in my denomination but I never could put a finger on it. The takeover of the Southern Baptist convention by some fundamentalists on a power trip changed the focus of the denomination from missions to politics in the way to change people. It has been a disaster.

The GOP has LOST the popular vote for Potus 5 of the last 6 times. (1992-2012)

Prior to that they WON 7 of 10 times. (1952-1988)

The Christian Right helped the GOP win with Reagan, BushI and BushII.

The Christian Right is a powerful brand,
with the money to finance and buy influence with elected representatives.

The were NOT the main force behind the origination of the Tea Party movement,
but they saw the success and quickly grafted themselves to the movement.

The Tea Party success brought in people that liked a libertarian-conservative philosophy.

Demographics are working AGAINST both the conservative-right and the Christian Right.

The VERY BEST outcome would be a cease-fire, a peace treaty between the Christian Right, the Moderate GOP and the libertarian-conservative people.

It takes everybody to win back a majority.

Simple really, if they are legit they will behave as Christians are supposed too. As many have pointed out many Churches fail the above measures....
