Those airport scanners with their all-too revealing body images will soon be going away.

The Transportation Security Administration says the X-ray scanners will be gone by June because the company that makes them can't fix the privacy issues. The other airport body scanners, which produce a generic outline instead of a naked image, are staying.

At first, both types of scanners showed travelers naked. The idea was that security workers could spot both metallic objects like guns as well as non-metallic items such as plastic explosives. They also showed every other detail of the passenger's body, too.

The TSA defended the scanners, saying the images couldn't be stored and were seen only by a security worker who didn't interact with the passenger. But the scans still raised privacy concerns. Congress ordered that the scanners either produce a more generic image or be removed by June.

The Patriot Act, DHS, TSA or any other part of this security theater BS was never about protecting Americans from anything. It has always been about controlling people, inducing widespread fear and resultant dependency, and destroying the protections (from usurpation by government) of our natural rights that we had enshrined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

I will grant that it is very "uncomfortable" to accept this fact, but the sooner that people do accept it, the sooner that people will understand what we are up against here.

Bush's motivation was to "induce widespread fear and resultant dependency" and to "destroy the protection" of our natural rights rather than to protect our lives after an act of war? I guess I know too much about the man to be that cynical about his motivation. (Again, not the decision, nor its results, but the condemnation you are making about his motivation).

Once again, I can disagree with a decision made without assuming that the person making the decision is the devil incarnate.

And again.............I'm not necessarily supporting the decisions, but questioning your assumption that the motivation was control and not protection which he deemed necessary.

I believe that he, and Dick Cheney felt that what they did kept us safe for 7 years after 9/11. And I believe both men to be honorable, and not power hungry, America-hating radicals like Obama is.

(I hate arguing with good people with whom I disagree only slightly, so if this becomes ugly, I'll back off..... It's not my intent, and I certainly don't want to make enemies here simply because I don't share a disdain for President Bush).

Well, facts are facts, until Dumbo obamma took office, bush had the record for the biggest deficit of all time. But his refusal to control the southern border, made a joke of the bogus department of homeland security. And the grouping agency call the TSA. He had his own little fast and ferious department, never fired anyone over it and. He did enable the bailouts of GM, costing the tax payers billions. A cost that would have not been necassary by simple bankruptcy. Bush, was not in the top ten presidents and neither was his father he ties jimmy peanut.

You'll have to forgive me for being gunshy, FP, but I have been beaten about the head until bloody on two other sites (FR by the right - I was lied about a lot there, TBL by the left - war and RE to an extreme) for saying sometimes innocuous things about my respect for President Bush as a person. I expect incoming when I say anything that is in any way, shape or form a defense of his character.

I'll say this, and then let it go.....

I flew in September, 2001, and personally, I was glad that people were checking passengers and our luggage after 9/11. One may call me a coward, or a sheeple for appreciating the added security, but that's how I felt.......and I still don't mind basic security checks of baggage. I do, however, deeply mind the personal searches and the X-rays. I understand that GWB set up the framework that can be abusive, but I strongly disagree with the accusation that his personal motivation was control over the people. It flies in the face of everything I know about who he is as a Believer, and as a person. I believe, in everything I have read about him personally, that his motivation was to protect this country. I do not agree with everything that was done, and it doesn't make me 'uncomfortable' that any politician does things that I don't agree with. I'm significantly more conservative than almost every politician out there (including Reagan, actually), so I don't expect them to work in complete accord with my views. I never have.

As for The Nevadan's comments about the immigration situation, I am also in partial disagreement there. While I firmly believe that the borders should have been shut down, and disagree with any form of amnesty, I believe his comment about 'vigilantes' was taken completely out of context and not what people assumed it meant, and I think he believed what he was doing would begin to solve the problem. Again......I didn't agree with the policy.

I am open to new information, and welcome it, realizing that most people as conservative as I am have a deep disdain for President Bush (not saying that about you), and already appreciate the fact that I have been able to say a few mildly positive things here about him, his Christianity and his character without being bombarded by name-calling and personal insults..........this IS a great forum.

I am an individual, and I can't be shoved in any box. I think for myself, and always have, am open for new thoughts and always seeking the truth, and am personally relieved that I have been able to express a different opinion here than the group without being attacked.

My respect for President Bush remains. My disagreement with a number of the decisions he made remains as well. And I am not alone among conservatives.
