Quote: Olivia wrote in post #35This article expresses my views on the republican party. Every word could have been written by me if I had the talent.
Since the republicans are never going to win another presidential election, I thinks it's time for some good conservatives to step up and form a third party. They aren't going to win either, but at least I could vote my principles instead of voting for the lesser of two evils.
This article is spot on. The only quibble I would have is that local politics is getting entrenched in DC establishment money very rapidly so that getting good candidates is tough. We had a local commissioners race that a Tea Party guy looked good in. He is smart, and had a plan to cut spending and taxes without too much hassle. Instead of the local party getting behind this guy, they ran and backed this loser who lost the job years ago to a minor scandal. All the local GOP dead wood backed the loser and my local US congressman was funneling money into his campaign even though we had a guy running that could win. All the local GOP apparatus were worried they would lose their party jobs if TP candidates started to get elected. The TP guy won, much to the disgust of the local GOP'ers. Totally outrageous. That was in '10 and that was when I said this party as it is set up is not for me. I went to work to get Romney elected, but it wasn't the exciting effort I put forth in other campaigns. The modern GOP is nothing more that a job retention program and has no interest in getting new voters involved or even going out on a limb to stand up for principles. Hell, the congressman that was involved in backing the loser candidate started fooling around with the "No Labels" crowd he is such a beltway loser. And there is no chance to get rid of this guy because they just gerrymandered his seat to super duper safe.
Frank,
This is an unfortunate truism.
I live in a town where a few years back the long time Democratic regime was so hated that a local with no name recognition, some very good ideas, and very little money got 1/3 the vote for mayor. Note the state 'country club ' republicans (NJ), who have aligned themselves with DC and the RNC, long before ceded the town to the dems and gave this poor soul no financial assistance. They weren't about to rock the boat. In fact that was the only time I remember seeing an opposition candidate for mayor with an R after their name.
Then there was the 'country club' support in the primary of their bud Christie over Lonegan, a proven fiscal conservative the democrats would have voted for.

I hope that this thread has provided proof that, at least for most here, a civil, productive discussion on politics and the Republican party is possible.
I bid you all a fond farewell, and will be back sometime in the future, the timing of which is still unknown.
