However, I believe there are areas where the Tea Party has had real influence in local politics.

I wouldn't say there is no hope, but there is very little anymore. When I was working to get Bush reelected in '04, Karl Rove and the GOP apparatus laid a lot of groundwork in the previous two years to kick out free thinkers and innovators in the state parties to get their guys in. I didn't think much of it at the time, but as we are seeing now, we are losing elections in places we shouldn't have any problems because the state parties are run but nothing but establishment yes men. No new ideas or candidates can flourish in that environment. Right now here in PA the GOP controlled congress and Gov can't even privatize the Liqueur Stores because there are GOP hacks who are getting kick backs from the corrupt system and there are no people in the party to call them out on it. A decade ago, there would have been people in the party who would tell these hold outs to get with the program and give the voters what they want or they will lose their jobs.

Of late we haven't had much to work with insofar as "better people."

I felt some who decided not to run in 2012, were better than those who did run. (Govs. Mitch Daniels and Tim Pawlenty, Sen. John Thune etc. versus Santorum, Cain, Bachmann, Palin)

Hopefully it is changing.

I used to challenge many at FR to actually go to a party meeting, county supervisors meeting or even city council meetings. Don't remember anyone ever coming and saying they did that.

I am active in the Rep County council here and recently had a small victory with the introduction of a bill in the Legislature to get rid of open caucuses. I think it might pass.

Spent a great deal of time working for Romney and McCain(with great reservation).

Also spent a great deal of treasure getting Dean Heller elected. He is not perfect but generally a good conservative with a decent mind.

I think part of the equation is that you have to be a bit crazy......or a LOT crazy.......to be willing to run for national office as a Republican, especially a conservative one, because you know you are going to be crucified by a lying, hate-filled leftist media.

I think anyone who actually runs for office as a conservative has to have a lot of guts these days.

Nerd, Carson is a good guy. My mother worked with him about twenty years ago. I don't think he is ready for the $hitstorm coming if he runs for any office. I actually see him as a stalking horse. Kind of what Palin did after the McCain's loss. Poke the nest and agitate.
