No one has 'turned on' nerd. It's not 'truth' in the message that he's bringing, but rather the one-sided lack of it and his inability to discuss things rationally.
He's done this to himself, algernon with his insulting, mocking, mindless bashing style.

I don't pay that much attention to nerd. If he says something that leaves me like this , which is frequently, I just move along. I don't feel that I have to prove to him that I'm right and he's wrong. Sometimes he cracks me up. Other times he confuses me. I'm not that invested in him, really.
Nor am I.
I just like intellectual honesty.
And I most certainly haven't 'turned' on him.
But I think a good case could be made that he's 'turned' on me.
However, there's no need to make it because I'm not that invested in him....

I said above that nerd isn't on my radar. I don't care what he says. algernonpj has said things that make me VERY uncomfortable. I'll honestly say that. That doesn't make him wrong. It makes me uncomfortable. When he says those things, I breeze past. Because I realize that what is making me uncomfortable is the realization that I don't have the knowledge that he does. So, if I just sit back and wait I could learn from him. I try to do that and a lot of times I see that in a later post he filled out his argument and it made sense. I learned.
Like I breeze past what Cedric says or what nerd says. It doesn't matter to me. It's a discussion forum where people post. So they post. It doesn't bother me.
Well then we're in agreement on some things here.
I do the same thing.
I state my opinion.
And obviously, some have serious problems with my doing that.
So be it. It's good to know.

Well, I have tried to be involved and have worked pretty hard in the past to help elect Republicans.
I am now rethinking that seriously, and am not likely to do it again.
I'm not sure what the answer is. Maybe one of the things I'd like to have happen here is to get some ideas as to how to help fix the mess we're in.
I guess I'm wondering now if there's any point to involvement at all.

I'm here to learn. And since I have slightly different views than pretty much everyone on every board everywhere, I do a lot of reading and learning.
But I don't learn from blind insults.

Well, I for one, didn't know being rude was not against the rules so that's good to know. Maybe the member was frustrated with snide remarks and downright mockery and the ones in charge were turning a blind eye? I never said anything about putting down any rules and I 've never whined to a mod about anything. Ever! I also apologize for not coming to your defense. I guess I thought mods could take care of themselves.

As it stands, it was a public accusation you made, which hopefully now has been cleared up, unfortunately in a very public way.
I didn't want Quix banned. I didn't want Gourmet Dan banned. I don't want nerd banned.
And I don't want Cedric banned either.
We all have different opinions and express our views in different ways. I've never, EVER been offended by yours.

Personally, I don't care if people are rude, condescending, irritating, moronic ect ect posts. I do have an issue with people who harp on how people express themselves and what they are expressing when that person doesn't have the balls to either form coherent thoughts on why they are right, i.e.; the modern day GOP party being awesome or at the very least posting articles that coherently state that.
There is one person that doesn't post thought provoking or interesting statements or articles and is basically a juvenile bore. That would be Cedric.

Curious title for where this thread has ended up. I saw all the activity going on here, noted the title and thought, "Yeah Chavez is dead, so what?". But all the activity this afternoon compelled me to tune in and see.
My opinion is that being rude is a personal preference. With some of us our base instincts get the better of us and "Thar she blows!" We're not all cut from the same fabric in how we deal with each other. That seems to me to be part of a community. I much prefer thoughtful dialogue to rudeness but there are times when the snide comment will squeak out.
My objection is with inappropriateness. I value who I associate with. Our time spent here has a [lost time?] value. I for one don't like associating with idiots who litter our list with inappropriate content, like someone insisting the Catholic church is led by satanists. I'd like restrictions put on such idiotic blather and I'd like to see anyone who persists in such destructive posting to be shown the door.
